styling makes an impact

Finding what to wear for your session is much more important than you may think. The right clothing choices can not only make you feel like a million bucks, but can ensure harmony with the surroundings, one another, and align with the overall creative vision for your session. Choosing a cohesive and pleasing wardrobe can highlight a specific mood for your images, and plays a key role in the overall aesthetic of your gallery.

finding your feel

Think first about what feeling you want your images to portray. Do you want images that feel warm, soft and cozy? Or, do you prefer something that is more vibrant and is full of energy? Do you want your photos to be more on the casual side, or should they be more elegant and polished? These are important questions to consider, and you can always send inspiration my way if you need help figuring out what your "feel" is. Browsing Pinterest boards and my portfolio can be a great way to start if you don't know what this is yet. I have one linked for you below as well.

choosing the palette

Finding colors that coordinate can be one of the trickier parts of the planning, but is essential. If it's just you and a spouse, or you and your family or group... the colors and tones matter! If you're looking for a softer feel, different shades of tan, khaki, and cream work wonders (avoid pure white!). A more moody palette would be deeper earth tones like forrest greens and rich browns mixed with creams. Vibrant and lively sessions would opt for more jewel tones, like emerald, teal, or copper.. complimented by others in lighter tones that "pop".

dos

Start with momma/wifey. Choosing something you feel your best in is always a great choice. Flowy dresses photograph beautifully, but if you don't feel that reflects what you want for your photos there are so many other great choices out there.

Find your comfort zone. These photos should always reflect YOU. Colors and tones matter more than the particular style.

Skim my portfolio, friends! If there's a shade you don't see somewhere in there, there's a chance it won't be cohesive with my editing style. Most book me because they like the feel of my photos... and this is a huge factor!

don'ts

Please do your best to avoid anything super duper trendy. You don't want photos you're going to cringe at in ten years!

Skip very busy patterns, wild prints, and bright neon colors. Not only do these tend to be unflattering in photos, they also draw attention away from what matters.

Do not wait until the last minute to plan! Waiting for an amazon shirt that arrives the day before the session is risky!

Don't stress it! If styling ain't your thing that's okay too. We will capture you and your loved ones in a beautiful way no matter what.
